Sewing Update:Yumiko Shirt
Last night I finished cutting out the bias binding for the neck and arm-holes. I sewed the shoulder seams and put gathers in beneath the bust. I had hoped to do more, but early on I stitched the wrong sides of the fabric together and had to undo the seam with a seam ripper and start over. Maybe I'll have time to get a little done tonight.

Cut!: The Boring part of the Yumiko Shirt
Last night I cut out the Yumiko Shirt. It's trickier than I thought it would be because some of the pieces want to be cut on the bias. The pattern instructions provide helpful fabric layout tips, but since I am using two different fabric types (the Yumiko on top, and plain black on the bottom) the layout tips weren't too helpful. Plus, I only had one yard of the yumiko fabric. I had wanted to make the ties for the top extra long, but I don't have enough yumiko left over to do that. I might break down and buy more. Then I could make a purse, too. Though I am beginning to think that the purse might prove to be a little too much yumiko for my own good.

I still have to cut out the bias binding for the neck and arms tonight. I am hopeful that I can get a good portion of the sewing done after that, though I'm pretty sure that applying the bias binding will kick my butt and I'll have to call up Omniscient Sewing Mom for some moral support.

Adventures in Sewing: Patterns and Fabrics and Thread - Oh, My!
The pattern I've been waiting for finally arrived in the mail Monday. Tuesday, I made a lunchtime excursion to the $2 Fabric Store. I bought four different fabrics to use for two of the dress patterns I picked up at the JoAnn's Fabrics pattern sale last Saturday. Two of the fabrics are $1-a-yard bargains, and the other two serious prints that I've been wanting for a while. I plan to use the $1 fabric for a test run before I sew up the more expensive stuff. As an example, one of the patterns I am planning to make is New Look 6242, from this fabric (my favorite of the whole lot).

Yesterday I had planned to get the Yumiko shirt cut out, but Jared and I had forgotten that we'd told John Daily that we'd meet him at the House of Blues to watch his friend sing. We missed his friend Lilly, because she was opening, but we did catch some other band, and the band Kennedy which was pretty good and played last.

At any rate, I'll write about last night over on ...or die trying!. This blog is just for projects. So, for the record, my plan is Wednesday & Thursday - Yumiko Shirt. Saturday - Saturday Trial Dress #1 - New Look 6242 in the $1-a-yard paisley. Wish me luck, I know I'll need it.
