New Project: Decadent Diva Sandals

After seeing the hand-painted wooden sandals at sites like Kiss My Feet that sell for over $100, I thought, "I can do that!" And thanks to all the cool crafting links on the web, I can. I found a pair of Dr. Scholl's Originals on sale at Robinson's May two weeks ago, and last week, I found a pair of Dr. Scholl's Diva's at 1/3 of their original price. I invested $18 in paint and sealer, and I'm in business.

Right now, I'm working on the Divas since they were the cheapest, and offer the most area to paint. I've already painted the wooden bottoms of both shoes a variegated blue-purple, and on top of that, I've painted clusters of bright-red cherries with yellow-tinged green leaves. It looks a lot like the "cherries" pattern available at Kiss My Feet, but mine are a little more detailed.

I keep telling myself that when I'm done with both pairs, I'll have saved over $200. Only, I know that doesn't really count because I would never pay $150 for a painted pair of $30 sandals (even if it does take a heck of a long time to do the painting) so really, I'm not saving anything. However, I am getting two pairs of new one-of-a-kind sandals.
