The Cute, cute, cute! Cover
Before we became completely, itchily aware that our backyard is Mosquito Central, Jared got a small portable swamp cooler for the patio to keep it cool while we're lounging or worshipping the barbeque. It's been sitting out there for about a month now because a) we're rarely home and/or awake during the day; b) the above-mentioned mosquitoes.
The swamp cooler was getting dusty, so I proposed to make a cover for it out of outdoor fabric. On Tuesday, I got a lovely green, brown and gold bamboo-print from Home Fabrics, measured a bit, cut out five squares (sides and top) and stitched the whole thing together. When I got to the last vertical seam, I realized that I hadn't put enough extra in the pieces for all of the seams to meet. So I hemmed the two sides and stitched an equally-long flap of fabric around the corner, beneath the opening from the two side pieces, to make a faux pleat. Then I stitched four pieces of green ribbon into the underside of the two side pieces and tied them in bows.
The result is Cute, cute, cute! Cuter than I could have imagined. So cute that I am loathe to put the swamp cooler back outside where my Cute, cute, cute! Cover might get dirty. So it's sitting in the den, against the wall right next to the patio door pretending to be a Cute, cute, cute! Covered table, instead of a dusty portable swamp-cooler with a $6 home-made dust cover.
One day, I'll get a digital camera and space for pictures on this site. Then I'll post a picture of my new favorite project, the Cute, cute, cute! Cover.
